Safari Adventure

Posted on by Teresa Lang

As Eva's birthday got closer, I found myself clicking through folders of Eva's baby photos and ran across one of Eva and her rhino. This little guy rarely leaves her side. He often joins us on shopping trips or at the dinner table...and always for bedtime stories. I knew there were more photos of these two, so I went on a little hunt and found a photo to celebrate each year. Who knew a simple gift that was given to her when she was 6 months old would turn into her faithful sidekick? Here's to 5 years of adventures!

Eva's only request was a chocolate cake, so I found a recipe on Pinterest that was easy to make and super YUM. We did a lot of repurposing for this party. For the cake stand, we took a fence post and part of old garage shelf that we cut to size and added beaded trim and patterned paper. Boom...done. Brown paper sacks were used as small bins for all the goodies and a pair of wooden boxes that we had on hand were used for cupcake stands. And what safari cake table would be complete without gold-painted plastic animals?

The favor boxes were a Hobby Lobby find for $1/box - WIN. We decorated them with vintage travel stickers and a name tag for each kiddo.

Each one was filled with a canteen, animal mask, binoculars, magnifying glass, and plastic animal.
